View Email Message Headers

To help us find problems with email sometimes we will request the message headers to be sent over, it is not possible for you to just forward the message as this re-writes the message header and is of no use, you must copy the message header and paste it into a new email and send it over.

 

How to Obtain the Message Header

This varies with each mail client, below you will find a list of common mail clients which will help you find the information and send it over.

 

Microsoft Outlook 2010

  • Open the email in a new window by double-clicking it.
  • Click the expansion button in the lower right corner of the Tags toolbar box.
  • The box by default holds the Follow Up and Mark as Unread buttons.
  • Find the headers under Internet headers:
  • Right Click in the Text Box and Select "Select All"
  • Right Click in the Text Box and Select "Copy"
  • Create a New Message
  • Click into the Message Area and Right Click and Select "Paste"
  • send the message to support

 

Microsoft Outlook 2007

  • Open the email in a new window by double-clicking it.
  • Click the expansion button in the lower right corner of the Options toolbar box.

  • Right Click in the Text Box and Select "Select All"
  • Right Click in the Text Box and Select "Copy"

Microsoft Outlook 2000, 2002 and 2003

  • Open the message in a new window in Outlook. 
  • Select View | Options... from the message's menu
  • All header lines appear under Internet Headers at the bottom of the dialog that comes up. 
  • Right Click in the Text Box and Select "Select All"
  • Right Click in the Text Box and Select "Copy"
  • Create a New Message
  • Click into the Message Area and Right Click and Select "Paste"
  • send the message to support

 

Entourage 2008 for MAC

  • Open the email in a new window by double-clicking it.
  • Select Message from the top Menu Bar
  • towards the Bottom of the list select Internet Headers
  • A new window pops up
  • Hold CTRL and Click in the Text Box and Select "Select All"
  • Hold CTRL and Click in the Text Box and Select "Copy"
  • Create a New Message
  • Click into the Message Area and CTRL and Click and Select "Paste"
  • send the message to support

 

MAC Mail

  • Open the "In" mailbox if it isn't already open (Mailbox pull-down menu -> Show -> In OR press command-1 on the keyboard ).
  • Click on the message for which you want to see the full header information.
  • Click the View pull-down menu, and then choose Message and Long Headers, OR press Command-Shift-H on the keyboard.
  • Click the Forward button, OR click the Message pull-down menu and choose Forward Message, OR press command-shift-f on the keyboard.
  • Fill in the address in the "To:" field as well as the subject, then send the message.
